Top Searches in 2017 for Luxury Portfolio International
With over three million searches on the website each year, Luxury Portfolio has a unique window into the types of properties that most appeal to affluent consumers. We have reviewed the data from our 2017 searches to deliver some key insights:
Worldwide, the drive toward investing in the United States is as strong as ever. When we looked at the overall data we saw that the top searched properties worldwide were located in major cities in the U.S. such as Los Angeles and New York.
Inside the United States, winners in our annual HGTV Ultimate House Hunt were among top searched properties. This partnership garners a great deal of attention each year and many people came to the Luxury Portfolio site to learn more about the properties featured in the 2017 contest.
One of the top properties was Serenissima in Longboat Key, Florida, listed by Michael Saunders, which was also featured in the Fall 2017 Luxury Portfolio magazine.
Waterfront homes as well as French Provincial style homes were also among the top searched properties in the U.S.
Nationally, we see that the top end of the market seems to garner more interest and traffic than lower priced listings, with highly trafficked properties including penthouse homes, contemporary residences and ultra-high-net worth homes $6M+.
In Chicago, penthouse properties over $6.7M were among the top 25 searched properties, with the top five searched properties in 2017 still on market.
In New York, properties over $20 million were the among the most searched.Four out of the five top searched properties are no longer on the market.
Consumers searching in Los Angeles showed interest in contemporary properties, with those above $14 million being the most searched. Three of the top searched Los Angeles properties on luxuryportfolio.com are no longer on the market.
Through our research, we found that searches from outside of the U.S. were not primarily focused on properties outside the U.S. For example, in searches from Europe, Los Angeles properties were searched more frequently than any other city in the world. These searches were focused on the luxury areas of Bel Air, Holmby Hills, and Beverly Hills.
What was also interesting here, was that the international properties searched for from outside the U.S. were not always the most expensive properties in the market (unlike the properties searched from within the U.S). €5M+ properties in Europe, Italy, the UK and Paris, were among the top searched.
From within in Asia, Los Angeles properties were searched frequently, while one of the top searched homes was a stunning penthouse, Zephyr Point at Damansara Heights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Other searches from Asia included homes in South Africa, Geneva, Switzerland, and New York City.
Overall, 2017 was a strong year for LuxuryPortfolio.com, presumable in part due to the increasing confidence in the global luxury real estate market (see our latest statistics on the luxury market here) with traffic to the site continuing to increase as more and more affluent buyers visit the site to view the world’s most prestigious properties.
